  PENNSYLVANIA'S RACE FOR GOVERNOR ISN'T MUCH OF A RACE IF YOU BELIEVE THE LATEST POLL NUMBERS COMING FROM FRANKLIN AND MARSHALL'S TERRY MADONNA.  HIS MOST RECENT POLL OF 520 REGISTERED VOTERS SHOWS CHALLENGER TOM WOLF LEADING GOVERNOR TOM CORBETT BY 25 POINTS.  "IT'S SIGNIFICANT AND IT'S HUGE WITH A RELATIVELY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME TO GO BEFORE THE ELECTION," MADONNA SAYS.  THE POLL ALSO FOUND ONLY ONE-IN-FOUR VOTERS THINKS CORBETT DESERVES A SECOND TERM AND ONLY 40 PERCENT OF REPUBLICANS SURVEYED BELIEVE THE GOVERNOR HAS DONE AN "EXCELLENT" OR "GOOD" JOB IN HIS FIRST TERM.


  LEHIGH COUNTY EXECUTIVE TOM MULLER'S 2015 BUDGET INCLUDS NO TAX INCREASE.  MULLER'S PROPOSED BUDGET COMES IN AT $369.2 MILLION, WHICH IS TWO-AND-A-HALF PERCENT HIGHER THAN THE 2014 BUDGET WAS.  DESPITE THAT, MULLER SAYS TAXES WON'T BE RAISED, PARTLY BECAUSE HE PLANS ON USING $5.4 MILLION OF THE COUNTY'S $25 MILLION SURPLUS TO BRIDGE A BUDGET GAP.  WHILE THERE'S NO TAX INCREASE IN MULLER'S BUDGET, THERE'S ALSO NO MONEY ALLOCATED FOR RENOVATIONS AT THE CEDARBROOK NURSING HOME.


  THE TRIAL OF TWO MEN ACCUSED OF A 2012 KILLING HAS BEEN DELAYED UNTIL SEPTEMBER 29.  THE POSTPONEMENT CAME AFTER RENE FIGUEROA HIRED A NEW ATTORNEY.  FIGUEROA COULD BE SENTENCED TO DEATH IF CONVICTED OF KILLING YOLANDA MORALES DURING A WILD SHOOTOUT NEAR THE PUERTO RICAN BENEFICIAL SOCIETY ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF BETHLEHEM ON DECEMBER 2, 2012.  FIGUEROA'S WIFE HAS PLEADED GUILTY TO PLOTTING TO KILL WITNESSES IN HER HUSBAND'S CASE AND FIGUEROA IS ALSO CHARGED WITH THAT MURDER-FOR-HIRE PLOT.  JAVIER RIVERA-ALVARADO IS ALSO CHARGED WITH MORALES' KILLING.  BOTH MEN HAVE PLEADED NOT GUILTY.


  ALLENTOWN POLICE SAY THEY HAVE A MAN IN CUSTODY THEY SAY IS RESPONSIBLE FOR A STABBING.  THE INCIDENT HAPPENED AROUND 4:30 THURSDAY MORNING NEAR 12TH AND TURNER STREETS.  21-YEAR-OLD CARNELL LONG WAS STABBED SEVEN TO EIGHT TIMES AND WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE HE IS LISTED IN STABLE CONDITION.  23-YEAR-OLD VICTOR GEORGE IS CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED HOMICIDE AND OTHER OFFENSES AFTER HE ALLEGEDLY WALKED INTO THE HOUSE WHERE LONG LIVES AND STABBED HIM.


  TWO ADULTS AND FOUR CHILDREN HAVE BEEN FORCED FROM THEIR HOME AFTER A THURSDAY MORNING FIRE IN ALLENTOWN.  THE FIRE BEGAN JUST BEFORE 10 O'CLOCK AT 130 NORTH 12TH STREET AND INVESTIGATORS BELIEVE AN OVERLOADED EXTENSION CORD IS TO BLAME.  NEIGHBORING HOMES SUSTAINED SMOKE DAMAGE.  NOBODY WAS INJURED.


  POLICE IN UPPER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP ARE WARNING DRIVERS OF A POSSIBLE SCAM AT THE EXXON TOP STAR GAS STATION ON HAMILTON BOULEVARD.  POLICE THINK SOMEONE TAMPERED WITH THE GAS PUMPS, POSSIBLY AS A WAY TO STEAL CUSTOMERS' CREDIT CARD INFORMATION.  POLICE WERE MADE AWARE OF THE TAMPERING THURSDAY.  THEY BELIEVE SOMEONE WAS ABLE TO RE-WIRE THE COMPUTER SYSTEM AT THE PUMPS.


  SCHUYLKILL COUNTY CORONER DAVID MOYLAN IS RUNNING FOR THE 17TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT SEAT CURRENTLY OCCUPIED BY DEMOCRAT MATT CARTWRIGHT.  MOYLAN SAYS HE WOULD ASK HIMSELF FOUR QUESTIONS BEFORE VOTING ON ANY BILL IF ELECTED.  THE FIRST QUESTION WOULD BE IF THIS BILL IS CONSTITUTIONAL.  "THE NEXT QUESTION I'M GOING TO ASK IS 'HOW'S IT GOING TO HELP THE PEOPLE IN THE 17TH DISTRICT', BECAUSE THAT'S MY PRIMARY OBLIGATION.  THE THIRD QUESTION IS 'WHAT'S IT GOING TO DO FOR AMERICA AS A WHOLE,' AND THE FINAL QUESTION IS 'HOW CAN WE PAY FOR IT'," MOYLAN SAYS.  IF ELECTED, MOYLAN SAYS HE WOULD PUSH FOR TERM LIMITS FOR BOTH REPRESENTATIVES AND SENATORS. 


  MUHLENBERG COLLEGE PRESIDENT AND BOW TIE AFICIONADO RANDY HELM CELEBRATED NATIONAL BOW TIE DAY THURSDAY BY RELEASING A YOU TUBE VIDEO ON THE DO'S AND DO NOT'S OF WEARING BOW TIES.  "ONE THING ABOUT BOW TIES THAT'S NOT COOL IS CLIP ONS.  NOOOO, DON'T DO CLIP ONS.  NOT COOL," HELM SAYS IN THE VIDEO.  IN THE VIDEO, HELM SAYS IF THERE'S ONE THING YOU NEED TO KNOW IT'S HOW TO TIE A BOW TIE AND THEN HE SHOWS HOW TO DO JUST THAT IN THE TWO MINUTE VIDEO.


  ROUGH SURF IS EXPECTED TO START DIMINISHING TODAY AT NEW JERSEY BEACHES AND CONDITIONS SHOULD IMPROVE BY THE LABOR DAY WEEKEND.  SWIMMERS WERE WARNED TO BEWARE OF ROUGH SURF AT ATLANTIC OCEAN BEACHES THURSDAY, AS HURRICAN CRISTOBAL PASSED WELL TO THE EAST OF THE SHORELINE.  ROUGH SURF, HOWEVER, MAY CONTINUE TO BE A PROBLEM TODAY AT LONG ISLAND BEACHES.  STRONG RIP CURRENTS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE.
