  STATE POLICE HAVE IDENTIFIED THREE PEOPLE KILLED IN A FIERY INTERSTATE CRASH IN BERKS COUNTY.  52-YEAR-OLD ROBERT ROSNER OF ALLENTOWN, 57-YEAR-OLD EDWARD DEARDEN OF YORK AND 54-YEAR-OLD THERESA DEARDEN OF YORK WERE KILLED IN THE CRASH MONDAY AFTERNOON ON INTERSTATE 78 IN GREENWICH TOWNSHIP.  A TOTAL OF SEVEN VEHICLES WERE INVOLVED.  STATE POLICE SAY A TRACTOR-TRAILER WAS ATTEMPTING TO PASS A SLOW-MOVING BOX TRUCK IN THE RIGHT LANE AND STRUCK A CAR.  THAT TRIGGERED A CHAIN-REACTION CRASH INVOLVING THOSE THREE VEHICLES AND FOUR OTHERS, SEVERAL OF WHICH BURST INTO FLAMES. 


  A TWO-CAR CRASH IN NORTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA INVOLVING A POLICE CRUISER HAS CLAIMED THE LIFE OF A WOMAN.  STATE POLICE AT LEHIGHTON SAID 69-YEAR-OLD CAROLA SAUERS WAS A PASSENGER IN A 2007 TOYOTA YARIS DRIVEN BY 64-YEAR-OLD MICHAEL SAUERS AT THE TIME OF MONDAY EVENING'S CRASH IN NESQUEHONING.  INVESTIGATORS SAID THE CRASH HAPPENED WHEN 25-YEAR-OLD STEPHEN HOMANKO, A PART-TIME NESQUEHONING POLICE OFFICER, LOST CONTROL OF HIS 2009 FORD CROWN VICTORIA WHILE ATTEMPTING TO NEGOTIATE A CURVE AND CROSSED INTO THE OPPOSING TRAFFIC LANE.  CAROLA SAUERS DIED AT A HOSPITAL.  POLICE SAID MICHAEL SAUERS HAD SEVERE INJURIES AND HOMANKO WAS LISTED AS HAVING MODERATE INJURIES.  AN INVESTIGATION IS UNDERWAY.


  A BETHLEHEM TOWNSHIP MAN IS DEAD AFTER BEING HIT WHILE STANDING BEHIND HIS CAR ON THE SHOULDER OF ROUTE 22 IN SOUTH WHITEHALL TOWNSHIP.  28-YEAR-OLD SHANE UTTARD WAS KILLED WHEN A PICKUP TRUCK DRIVEN BY BRIAN CREAZZO, OF BETHLEHEM, HIT HIM AT THE MERGE OF ROUTES 22 AND 309.  INVESTIGATORS BELIEVE CREAZZO WAS TRYING TO MERGE ONTO ROUTE 22 AND WHEN HE COULDN'T HE ENDED UP ON THE SHOULDER WHERE HE HIT UTTARD.  POLICE DON'T KNOW WHY UTTARD WAS OUTSIDE HIS CAR. 


  THE MAN WHO STABBED FOUR PEOPLE TO DEATH IN A NORTHAMPTON HOUSE IN 2010 IS ASKING THE U.S. SUPREME COURT TO TOSS OUT HIS DEATH SENTENCE.  MICHAEL BALLARD'S ATTORNEY CLAIMS THE JURY WAS GIVEN A WRITTEN VERDICT SLIP THAT FAILED TO PROPERLY DETAIL BALLARD'S CLAIMS THAT BRAIN DAMAGE AND AN ABUSIVE CHILDHOOD TRUMPED A DEATH PENALTY.  BALLARD KILLED EX-GIRLFRIEND DENISE MERHI; HER FATHER, DENNIS MARSH; HER GRANDFATHER ALVIN MARSH; AND NEIGHBOR STEVEN ZERNHELT, WHO RUSHED TO THE HOME WHEN HE HEARD SCREAMING.


  NORTHAMPTON COUNTY JUDGE MICHAEL KOURY IS STANDING BY HIS RESENTENCING OF QU'EED BATTS TO LIFE IN PRISON WITHOUT PAROLE.  KOURY DISMISSES BATTS' REQUEST THAT HE SOMEDAY BE ALLOWED OUT OF PRISON FOR KILLING A 16-YEAR-OLD BOY AND WOUNDING AN 18-YEAR-OLD MAN BACK IN FEBRUARY 2006.  BATTS WAS 14 AT THE TIME OF THE GANGE-RELATED SHOOTINGS AND WAS GRANTED A RESENTENCING HEARING AFTER THE SUPREME COURT RULED AUTOMATIC LIFE-WITHOUT-PAROLE SENTENCES FOR JUVENILE KILLERS WAS CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT.  BATTS' ATTORNEY IS EXPECTED TO APPEAL TO SUPERIOR COURT.


  A NEW POLL SHOWS THAT TOM WOLF IS MAINTAINING A 19-POINT LEAD OVER HIS CLOSEST COMPETITOR IN PENNSYLVANIA'S RACE FOR THE DEMOCRATIC GUBERNATORIAL NOMINATION.  FRANKLIN & MARSHALL COLLEGE SURVEY RESULTS SHOW WOLF FAVORED BY 33 PERCENT OF DEMOCRATIC VOTERS, UNCHANGED FROM A MARCH SURVEY BY THE SAME POLLSTER.  THE PROPORTION OF UNDECIDED VOTERS DROPPED FROM 46 PERCENT TO 39 PERCENT.  THE POLL SHOWED GROWING SUPPORT FOR THE OTHER CANDIDATES.  BUT ONLY DAYS BEFORE TUESDAY'S PRIMARY, U.S. REP. ALLYSON SCHWARTZ HAD 14 PERCENT, STATE TREASURER ROB MCCORD HAD 9 PERCENT AND FORMER STATE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION CHIEF KATIE MCGINTY HAD 5 PERCENT.  THE TELEPHONE POLL OF 530 DEMOCRATIC VOTERS WAS CONDUCTED BETWEEN MAY 6 AND MONDAY. 


  LOCAL ORGANIZERS AND GOVERNOR TOM CORBETT UNVEILED THE THEME FOR NEXT YEAR'S WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES IN PHILADELPHIA.  "THE THEME OF THIS MEETING IS 'LOVE IS OUR MISSION:  THE FAMILY FULLY ALIVE," CORBETT SAYS.  THE WEEKLONG CONFERENCE AIMS TO STRENGTHEN FAMILY BONDS.  PHILADELPHIA ARCHBISHOP CHARLES CHAPUT SAYS HE'S PERSONALLY CONVINCED POPE FRANCIS IS COMING TO MEETING OF FAMILIES IN SEPTEMBER 2015.


  NEW JERSEY GOV. METS FIRST BASEMAN LUCAS DUDA ALSO SAYS A BURGER FROM THE SAME PLACE MADE HIM ILL.  "A COUPLE OF COACHES TOOK A BITE AND DIDN'T LIKE WHAT THEY SAW AND THREW THE REST AWAY," SANDBERG TOLD REPORTERS BEFORE TUESDAY'S GAME. "I WAS IN A RUSH, SO I ENDED UP PUTTING IT AWAY.  I HAD ONE PIECE OF TOAST IN TWO DAYS, AND I'M FEELING FINE ABOUT THAT.  I DON'T WANT ANYTHING IN MY STOMACH."
